The Rental Act (THE “RTA”) defines the rights and obligations of tenants and landlords and defines the framework for everything related to the tenancy process, including rents, dispute resolution, deposits, lease term and much more. The RTA requires landlords and tenants to sign a formal lease agreement that defines the details of the lease and protects both parties in the event of a dispute. Ontario`s standard leasing base is designed to be easily understandable to everyone, particularly rents, deposits and utilities – three main areas where there are often problems between landlords and tenants.
